Well it sure seemed to take long time but the PELRB finally met and certified the election results as of Oct 9th. Congratulations Española-NEA you are the official bargaining agent for all 539 +/- employees of EPS. And now that the certification is official it is the responsibility of the district to start negotiating with us.
How quickly they will start negotiating is another story - I think it is probably fair to think that they will not be in a rush to start. On the other hand if they delay too long we can file an official complaint. So what ever you do, DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH! But the good news is the longer they delay, the more training, the more understanding, the more educated we get, the more likely we are to be successful in helping to create a good contract.
Right now - This week, we are circulating a short survey of some of the issues we thought you might think were important. It only takes two minutes to fill out the survey so PLEASE take the time to fill out the survey and make sure to get it back to us. You can give it to your building AR (association representative) or put it in the school mail to me just be sure to get it out right away. Our goal is to have all the surveys done and returned by next Friday so that we are prepared with our list of issues to put on the table.
I thank you all for your time, efforts and support. I was reminded today that when I was talked into putting my name on the nomination form for president that I vowed if we didn't have collective bargaining in two years, I would quit. You all have helped us to make that goal - as we all know it is the steady progress from continued effort that gets us to our goals. Our goal now is to negotiate a fair contract.
I am going to try, every week, to make a post here letting you know what is going on. We also have a news letter we are starting for those of us who don't do email or computers. We are looking for news and information for the news letter from Elementary schools and the mid school so if there is anything happening at your building, please drop me a line with the information and I will try to get it in the news letter.
